1987-Nickel-On-Wrong-Planchet?

Hi all. This is my first post and I'm a newbie so go easy on me if I say something wrong please.

Is this PMD or was it broadstruck? It weighs 4.64 g.

TIA! I appreciate the info I have already gained also!!

Michelle

If you can imagine a way to modify a coin to look like that, that's probably what happened. This coin might have been hammered to increase its diameter, such as to make it into a bus or train token that was slighly larger than a nickel.

A nickel that was in the wrong place at the wrong time--perhaps a tech school metal shop.

Note the surface scratches on the reverse. The coin was altered. Spender.

The weight being reduced is because of the metal being filed/scrapped off.
