Why is it that the date on these two pennies look so different from each other did they change something within those two years or is it just my imagination because one is more shiny?

It would appear the alignment of the dates--number-by-number-by number--is different, but that's the way it is, not a mint error.

Okay so it's not exactly in my head and yes I have now put in my Two Cents. The only cents I have left haha.

Various things can alter size of devices. Die states, Die swelling of the master hub. Extreme die polishing.

The difference between the large and small date 1982 is the master hub was replace (small date) and the swollen (large Date) was the cause. I experimented with Photoshop and saw that the small date image could be altered to show a small and large date from one set of images of the small date:

I was wondering if the '2' differences would be changed by enlarging the image from the center, and it die.
