I would like help with a grade on this steel penny. I believe it may be a
rpm---possibly IMM-003/WRPM-003.
Thanks for your response.

Your coin looks re-plated to me,so would be considered PMD. Can't tell if it is a RPM or not with these pics, sorry.

Thanks John1. I just reviewed a number of prior CC posts over the years about re-plated steel cents and realize now this may also be re-plated. Is weight an indicator? This penny weighs 2.7 grams.

Thanks Coinfrog. I did some more research about how to recognize re-plating and agree with you and John1. I'll put it in my collection with the appropriate "re-plated" notation.

Thanks BadThad. I thought a re-plated penny would weigh more than an average steel penny---and this one is a normal 2.7 grams. I thought that would be inconsistent with a re-plated condition. But the edges are what I have now read are dispositive, and on this steel coin they are very clean, smooth and shiny--and no hint of corrosion. So, this would appear to indicate re-plating. Correct?

Yes,re plated. Weight isn't really an indicator. Mint tolerance is +/-.13 grams, and we do not know how much "wear" was on the coin prior to being re-plated. Being unusual shiny, specialty on the edge are the indicators.
