Per this announcement, the Crossing the Delaware design will be announced on Christmas Day.

Meanwhile, H.R. 1923 passed the Senate last week, and is now sent back to the House.

Will be interesting to see if they stick with the design previously announced.

This is a bill that NEEDS to be killed. Hopefully since there are only 10 days left in this Congress it will end up dying.

Rough summary of what is in it

The Washington crossing the Delaware instead of being a new permanent design will be one year only.

Then 5 years of 5 coins per year of promenent women of the rev of the quarter.

Then in 2026 the quarter gets five designs marking the United States semiquincentennial, at least one of which "must be emblematic of a woman's or women's contribution to the birth of the Nation or the Declaration of Independence or any other monumental moments in American History."

A dollar coin for the semiquincentennial.

Then five years of quarters with 5 designs per year of youth sports.

Also starting in 2027, for five years, the half dollar will have on the reverse a paralympic sport (appears to call for just one per year)

5 oz silver bullion coins for each of these quarter and half dollar coins mentioned.

Smaller silver bullion coins of all these at the discretion of the Set of the Treasury.

AND!
The Secretary is encouraged to develop and include on any coin issued in accordance with subsections (x), (y), or (z), a unifying inscription, privy mark, or other symbol for that particular coin program.

So they could all come with and without privy marks

Hang onto your wallets folks here come at least another 205 quarters, 1 dollar, 5 half dollars, and 60 5 oz bullion coins. More if they do with and without privy marks or if they do the fractional bullion coins.

I would still like to see state minerals on the quarters or do the alphabet like the Brits did on their 10p coins. I think the alphabet idea will be good for our kids...even try to spell words with quarters.

The Mint issued a press release and images of the new coin.

I have to say, I love how this looks in the rendering. I love the return of the 1932-1998 obverse and the updated digits for the date are a nice touch. I can't wait to see this in circulation next year.

It does look very nice...looks like a deeper relief.

Six different typefaces? I'd prefer less of a ransom-note appearance.

Very nice, I like these designs much more than I thought I would. My only real issue is having the words "CROSSING THE DELAWARE" on the reverse. Beyond the fact that it's redundant, that text makes the reverse appear too crowded.

If the U.S. Mint would have stuck with the obverse style from 1999-2021, the reverse would certainly not appear to be as crowded. It is nice to see the pre-1999 Washington obverse with some deeper relief going!

Gotta admit I really love these renders. I agree the "Crossing the Delaware" text is a bit much, but otherwise this a solid design. Looking forward to seeing this next year!

I think having the text of "Crossing the Delaware" somewhat puts it in context for many, many, many Americans who know nothing about the Revolutionary War. Not taught as in depth as it used to be.

My thought is those who would like to know would seek the answer. Just like some of us did when the bicentennial quarter came out.

Unfortunately JBuck, I do not see the desire in students to learn...I teach and the history taught today is more aligned to how great Mao's long march was, and what we can learn from his little Red Book. Nary a sentence is mentioned in any discussion or book of how important the battles of the Coral Sea and Midway were to the eventual triumph of the US over the Japanese Empire...more emphises is placed on how we should be reflective on our use of the atomic bombs to end the war.

Give me a historical triumph in Washington crossing the Delaware any day...heck I'd even take a quarter about him chopping down the cherry tree.
