And this slump just gets worse. Finished a box last night, 4 Lincolns (oldest 1952), no keeper quality BU reds, don't keep copper and nothing else.

I have noticed recently that there is a diminishing number of 60s and 70s in the boxes. Don't know if this is just coincidence or the result of copper being hoarded.

Jim - I noticed the same thing with my last couple of boxes. I started picking up customer rolls and things picked up. I got a number of 1960D small dates as well as a magnetic 2004 Canadian in the last $10.00 I got.

I am going through two $25 boxes of copper brinks cents. I mentioned earlier in this thread that my dad got them from his bank. the latest coin found in 1982 with most of those in the 80-82 range being BU or AU coins. Also averaging about 1 wheat per 2 rolls. The only thing I can think of is that these set in a vault somewhere since 1982. Lots of fun searching these. Will post some pictures later.

I opened one roll out of a box and it contained 3 wheat cents. One was a choice au 1953. I've decided that I only have about 70 rolls left and am only going to open 1-2 rolls a month to stretch it out. Once they are gone I don't imagine I will ever find this again. The neat part is this is the same time period I used to search as a kid and find quite a few wheats. Between these and the BU 1980 rolls I got from the bank recently I feel like I discovered a time machine....until I look in the mirror!

alright so I'm new here and this is my first ever post yeah me ahah
but I have been collecting now for about 6 months pennies and nickels to start now I'm doing almost every coin I can find
I have a full set of canadian pennies going back to 37 with the first small king george up to 2010 (from buffalo Ny I get a lot of canadian coinage)
I have a great deal of wheaties I have the 2 whitman folders and am only missing a few coins from the second book including s mints 55,54,51,49, 47,44,43,42,41 and D mints 41,43,and 49
I found my first steal wheatie a few days ago
I hit up all the banks I drove by went into the inner city. I didnt even have accounts at any of the banks besides like 2 I stopped at.
At one bank I got really old looking wrappers that the coins were in. Opened them first when I got home. They had like at least 20 wheat pennies a pop! I went back to that bank immediately when I finished opening them from that bank and asked for anymore they had wrapped like that (they had an address on them too)
teller gave me 15 dollars more
I got in the car and noticed some had more then just adresses some had dates
1940's 1950' 40's-50's 50s-60's
yeah the ones labeled 40's were capped with steal cents
GREAT FINDS
no Indian cents yet
but I found a really nice cameo proof 1969s it's definitely a proof too the back of the coin is like a mirror

Anyone have any luck finding an 84 double ear
and also what kind of a magnification device should I get too look for errors like double dies on the 72 pennies and other minting mistakes

also I forgot I am putting together a roll of each date and each mintmark from the 60's (and 59)
I was wondering if this is a really dumb idea? I know collecting is about your personal interest but I thought it would be kind of neat to get a roll of every date and mint of the memorial cents instead of just one of each
Once I finish the 60's we're onto the 70's

I'm going to do the year and mm thing too slash112. Right now I'm focused on years/mm for pre 1970. I'm leaving all of the 71-81's in the copper bin. I have separate tubes for AU/BU coins.

Speaking of AU/BU coins, I just finished a decent box. Pic is of a few of the nice BU's including one of 5 similar 1970-S's. (top left).

Jim, I know a lot of copper is being pulled from circulation lately. With inflation on the rise, expect it to get worse. One good thing about cents are that millions of people have hundreds of cents just sitting around in their house. As the economy gets worse more is going to get put back in circulation. I am one of those copper hoarders and the finds have been good so far but am anticipating that CU will really disappear in the next several years. Once the melt ban is lifted and/or the cent is sent off into obsolescence expect these little guys to get melted by the truckloads.

GREAT deal! I think I would have cleaned him out at that price if they are all BU. I believe these to be the rarest 1982 cent. In all my searching, I think I've maybe found 10-15 in circulated condition.
