Did a box today:
15 wheats, oldest was a VG 1910.
7 Canadians
about 18% copper
and TWO EF 1998 WAMs in the same roll!!

It was with a bunch of pre 1970 Memorials and 40s/50s wheaties. All were very dark in color. It just blended in I guess. Went back to the same teller today and she was all out. UGH

I have noticed a lot more wheats in customer wrapped rolls lately. Copper is pretty steady at about 22%.

My new "oldest mark" was reached, when I found a 1916 Philly last night ! .... it's in "fair" shape...... maybe F-12 -VF-20 or so...[: ...       Just think.....around that time.... MOST PEOPLE DIDN'T HAVE CARS ! .....LIKE TRY ---- N.O. O.N.E. !!The centuries of the Czars (Romonov Dynasty)) ruling Russia was coming to a very bloody end when that family's reign was ended in a brutal mass murder family assasination. World War One was raging. Wyatt Earp was still alive.
Geronimo died only 7 years before this coin was minted.Most people living at that time remember VERY EASILY, " The West" when it was untamed.....and the Civil War......the horrors of "slavery"...... If I could only know the hands that touched this coin, the stories they could tell with "first hand accounts"........just makes you REALLY think doesn't it ?

That is the thing about antique coins. In your hands you are holding a piece of history. If only the coins could talk....
Over time the coins (and currency) tell the story. Coins show the progression of a country and it's people. As most countries in history they start out strong. A country may start out with gold and silver as it's base and then moves on to less metal (inflation) and eventually out of precious metals entirely. Even paper money used to have gold or silver backing it here in the US.
Most of the wars that have raged in the last 75 years could not have happened if gold and silver had not been replaced with fiat money. The politicians and bankers stole from us and the proof is in our pockets. The US dollar is only worth a few pennies compared to what it was before the Federal Reserve (nothing federal about it) was created in 1913. That law was written by bankers for bankers. Nothing has changed as the banking law just passed last month is more of the same. Our money tells a story....

I had a 1916 wheatie yesterday. Pretty worn - probably bordering on AG, but I'll take it! I had 22 other wheaties in that box which is above my usual average of 14. This was an NF String & Sons box - which I seem to have the most success with.

I found a 1913 in roll the other day. The coin was pretty worn, but it filled a hole.

Some pretty neat finds here! just shows what you can find if you keep searching. So far this summer I have found 53 wheaties, the oldest being two AG 1920s. Also have found quite a few BU cents from the 1960s. Nothing too special, but also have a few lamination errors which I hope to post pics of soon.

Box of Brinks pennies this afternoon: 1919-S 1940 1941 1942 1946 x 2 1955 (Don't worry, I looked reaaaally hard to try and see a DDO!) 1956 Canadian: 1976 x 2 1980 1981 x 2 1983 1996 2000 ...and there are a TON of 2010's showing up by me now. There were probably 2-3 rolls in this box. |
