I have been going through the three bags of cents the someone brought into the bank that had been stored in a barn for the last 30 years. There are several 1983 and 1984 near uncirculated coins in the mix. I was hoping to find either the 1983 or 1984 double die. Believe it or not, I am about half way through and found the 1984 1DO-001!!!

First Search:

Went to the bank and asked for a box of cents that were customer wrapped. She said the boxes where new stuff. She turned to the teller next to her and asked her if she "still" had the customer wrapped pennies. "Yes, but only $19.50" she says. "I'll take them" says I. So I move to her window and she pulls them out.

The first thing we both see is a dime on the end of a roll. She comments about not seeing it when she took them in but does not move on it. OK, cool! Profit!

I get home and think that's a good roll to start on and while pulling it out, I notice it's real loose on the end with the dime. Yeah, buddy! 13 dimes (2 were even 70 and 74D). Found 2 more in other rolls.

Breakdown of the first 10 rolls:

5 Wheats: 1935, 44, 49D, 51D, 57D
1960's - 11 - 0 reds
1970's - 46 - 3 reds
1980's - 19 - 2 reds
Dimes - 15
Canadian Cent - 1 1989

And the winner is!! Well, the buck fifty cash, of course. The 35 was nice too and my oldest roll search find...so far.

Will report the rest as searched. Looks like a good lot.

Mores dimes !!

Hooked!

Haven't been able to look through many rolls recently, but I have recently found a 1935, 1946, and 1957-D in about $10 of rolls. However, I was also surprised (and pleased!) to find a 1943 and a 1957 Canadian penny in the same roll as the latter two wheat cents. Happened to find exactly 10 2010 cents together at the end of a mixed roll as well.

Hey everyone, I just did my first box of pennies over the last 2 days and it was very fun to say the least! I'm hooked..
Her are the results of everything I found

about 18 percent copper
12 wheats (oldest was 1946S..5 "S" total...
4 Canadians
1 1982 Small Date--How rare are these? I have no clue..pretty good condition too

What do you guys think? average box? I am getting more today..Also, which banks will take unrolled pennies? I have been to 3 different ones asking and none of them do (except Bank of America if you have an account)..Anyone know? Thanks for looking! Alan

The totals from your box are pretty close to what I'd call "average" for out here in Cali. I'm in the central valley, and I usually get about a dozen wheats per box. Don't forget about the S-mint Memorials...imho, they're well worth keeping too.

As far as I know, BOA is the only bank that accepts unrolled coin. I've heard that they've started charging a "per bag" fee in some branches down in So Cal though. Some credit unions have free coin machines if you're a member.
