hey so I am on my 4th roll of my second box and out pops a 1911S! The only problem is its in bad shape..not worm, just really dirty or something..Is there ANYTHING I can do to clean it without damaging the value of the coin? I can see a good coin underneath the dirt/something covering it.

Congrats on the 1911S! You might try a quick soak in acetone along with a rinse in distilled water to remove some of the dirt. Quote:

Ok Thanks! Sorry to be a bother but how long is a quick soak? I dont want to ruin the value of it in any way! Ok cool, I will start saving them, as well.

I'm no expert, but I've found that 1 or 2 minutes is all I've needed. Anything more than that has never harmed the coin, but if it's not going to come off after a 2 minute soak, it probably won't... even if soaked longer.

ok cool, thank you! I just did it and it looks a little better, but it looks as though one half of the coin has just oxidized on the back. Is there anything that can be done for that? I am thinking not. I will try and get a picture up asap..are scans or pictures better for coins? Thanks! -Alan

 to the madness Alan , for a box of cents I just use coin star it only cost around $2.50 9.8% per dollar here in Ct , So around $2.50 to find something that may be worth something way more is ok with me  |

Welcome to CC!  Don't do ANYTHING to the coin. The 11-S is one of the more valuable S mint Lincolns. Let's see some pictures. Edited by BadThad

ok I wont do anything else to it. I only soaked it for 1 minute and that got a little more dirt off. Is it really worth anything in its current state? This is as close as my scanner gets, sorry you cant see the "S? But it is there   |

Not so much dirt as it is corrosion. I'd soak it for 24 hours in VC, you might be surprized.

ok, I will do that..You are referring to Verdi-Care correct? Sorry, I am very new at this..I wont do anything to it until I know haha. That will not devalue the coin either? Thanks! -Alan

Yes, see my sig. The coin is so corroded it can only help at this point. If anything, it will add value.

I found 2 rolls of wheat pennies at a yard sale today...I got a nice 1946 and a 1948-S and a 1949-D...all in excellant condition!  |

ok thank you! I am going to order some and hope it works a little! Here are my results from my second box: about 17% copper 29 S Mints 6 Wheat--1911S and 1936S are the best 1 1982 Small Date 1 canadian not too many wheats, but I like the dates more than my first box! Here are some pictures of the best coins:      There are many other nice ones, but these are the best. Let me know what you guys think! -Alan |

Nice run of "s", 9090. Just got finished with my first $20 and didn't find the first one. Wrong part of the country I guess.
My final Wheat count was 10. So 1 per $2. I did pull some nice 60 reds.
Kept 1 roll or 60's, 2 rolls of 70's and 1 roll of copper 80's and the $1.50 in dimes :)
