Great finds. I keep a 1909 I found metal detecting and a 1909 VDB CRHing in my second set. Like you, I gave up looking for a VDB and bought one. But I've pulled a couple from the wild and see folks here finding them so it is encouraging for purists out there. My second set is pure circulation finds.

nice finds on the 09 and 09vdb. Also, thanks for that link. I had heard about the story, its nice to see how the story ends.

Found this the other day. It may have been cleaned in the past but I can't say for sure. Nice find on that 24-D!   Edited by mountainman 2

Hey guys I'm just wondering I'm trying to fill up my folders and am unsure how to tell the difference between all the 1982s I'm just wondering if there is an easy way to tell orwhat I should do. Thanks and happy hunting

socceraustin23, the 82 zinc has a smaller date. Just got my second box! hope I find as many wheats as the last box.  Also, how many boxes did it take you guys to find your first WAM? Edited by Oysterk

Jack is correct--there are 7 known varieties of '82: all combinations of P&D in large and small date; in copper and zinc. '82-D small date copper is the only one that is unknown in any collection, but I'm not entirely unconvinced that they don't exist.
Easiest way to tell with the '82 is to flip it, as in "heads or tails". Copper cents ring; zinc goes thud. Not the gentlest way to handle coins, but 99% of '82s out there are worth copper melt at the absolute most.
