This thought only because there is a rim. At the Mint I guess there is a way for a planchet to drop out after the upsetting process which is when the rims are formed. But how it got back into the process to end up in circulation is the mystery. The planchet does look aged so I guess it's weight would help explain when it was produced. My guess it is not a zinc composite so it should not weight 2.50 grams. Report this Post to the Staff

You made me remember the truck destined for the Mint that spilled its load of penny planchets all over I-95. It was shut down for hours. Maybe that's where it came from since it is 2.50 grams! WheatBackPenny Valued Member United States 406 Posts	Posted 07/16/2017 10:05 am Another box of pennies (with a Canadian ender which I added to the ender box, so 49 rolls) resulted in: 19 Wheats, oldest 1923 and two 1939s 4 Canadians, oldest were two 1987s (not including the 1976 Canadian ender) 3 S mints, 1969, 1970, and 1971 Also, there was one very weird looking penny that appeared to have been colored with a black marker around the words and design, but with a gold colored one on the empty space. I started on the 98,99,00 cup looking for WAM's. I'm about 200 pennies in and I just found my first WAM since 2012. Glad to see they're still out there. It's a 2000, btw. qaman Valued Member United States 175 Posts	Posted 07/17/2017 4:33 pm Did $6 dollars worth of rolls out of the latest box found 1-2009 log cabin, 1 2009 professional threw it back it was nasty, 1950-D, 1939,and 1941.
