Ok y'all so I've got a 2000 quarter but how in the French toast can it say 1670-2007 if the quarter was minted in 2000? It wasn't even 2007 yet!   |

And it wasn't 1788 when the coin was minted either. I agree with Greasy, search Google.  I am concerned how you were holding the quarter in your photo... are those tweezers? Metal on metal is never a good idea! No need to hold your coins, just photograph them laying flat with your camera looking down. to the CCF! |

Note the word above the 2000. That is the clue. (400 years)

Yes, a quarter minted in 2000 to recognize the 400-year anniversary of Jamestown (set for 2007).

The series started in 1999, with five per year released in the order of admittance to the Union. Virginia was the 10th state, so it was minted in 2000.

It is not the first time coins have been issued to commemorate future events, nor is there any rule that forbids it. For example, The Vancouver 2010 Olympics had a series of 25 cent coins issued starting in 2007.

Wait, you mean you haven't heard of the 2021 US Quebec quarter that pre-celebrates 50 years of anticipating the 2071 addition of Quebec to the US National Park System? As the mint director says, "Get with the program!"

VA wanted to use the founding of Jamestown, first successful English colony in the new world, and they were planning on celebrations in 2007 to mark the 400th anniversary. The quarter gave them the chance to have seven years of free advertising for the event and the Mint let them get away with it. Frankly the design should have either left off the anniversary dates, or made it Jamestown founding 1607, and drop the quadricentennial.
