This appears to be an example of one of the dies that has a die crack that mimics the overdate

I thought the base of the 2 would be more appearance, or can this be a very late die stage?

Nice roll find If that's a die crack then it's an amazing coincidence.

The spike is at the correct angle for the overdate, and not for the known die cracks in that area. The base of the 2 isn't quite as clear, but I'm fairly certain this is the 43/2 overdate (or doubled die). Great find!

Thanks for all the nice comments. Quote: .I love to hear CRH stories and finds. I started hunting through rolls in the 1960's while still a youngster. My Dad, God bless him, would many times bring me home rolls to look through and then take them back and exchange them for others. He always supported the interests my brother and I had. I stopped roll hunting in the early 1970's. Life had more urgent callings for the next few decades. In 2009 after the kids were grown and gone, I started looking through rolls again, especially nickels. On January 29, 2009 I started a nickel set made of only roll finds. After 2 years I had found all but 3. It was a fun exercise. I wish I had kept track of how many rolls I looked through. Here are photos of book 1 of the set. I also found all of the later ones, as well as quite a few Buffalo nickels.

The flatness on the lower horizontal proves it is a 43/42:
