I am not sure why there is any concern at all about the case. The package is obviously home-made, and damaged. I would even say that the Washington quarter as part of it makes no sense if there ever was an intention to have some sort of common theme here. A 1/4 dollar of the same era, possibly. The plastic case is easily removed by multiple possible methods.

No value for the case. It has to be cracked to properly evaluate the coins. No point in further discussion if the OP is unwilling to do that.

How many other fake coins does the old lady have beside the set you got?

This just gets stranger and ........stranger . Almost seems that the worthless plastic is of more importance than the grand plus worth of coins !

T-BOP never got back to me. He could have been my witness. I opened the case last night with nervous hands, a knife, screwdriver and hair dryer. No Power tools. The hair dryer actually softened the glue. I put them in vinyl flips and went to the coin store this morning. After years of getting ripped off with coins, my ship finally came in! They are real!! It actually took my breath away. I'm still in shock! I'm waiting for that consignment shop to re-open. Quote: How many other fake coins does the old lady have beside the set you got? I don't know but if she does, I sure ain't telling anybody! I'll be giving that shop a donation for Christmas. Don't know yet if I'll be submitting them, selling them or keeping them. Thanks to each of you for your feedback on this!

This thread sure has been fun to follow. Congratulations!
I'm sure we'd all like to know the story behind these coins.

Never hold coins except by the rims! Gloves or no gloves, it doesn't matter.

Probably a collection of dates that meant something to the previous owner.
Interesting tidbit about the case. It was a 1960 invention to give collectors a better way, better than the cellophane, to display their mints sets. The inventor, Paul W. Jenkins, had over a hundred other patents.
Great find and purchase.
