I was able to work out a deal, while I wanted all 3 the 1805 Half Cent was a lot more than I want to spend. I did pick up 1 yesterday and put a deposit on another. So here is yesterday's coin. With the next 2 coins I jumped up to number 84 and am now at 80% complete. The 2nd coin I pick up in 4 weeks. That so far is my most expensive of the set.

The "LIBERTY" seriously reminds me of a head sweatband.

hfjacinto, please read the new topic I posted about NGC starting to add Registry points for coins with CAC's. This will indeed have a slight negative impact on your ranking, since some collectors ranked slightly behind your set, at any point in time, can potentially jump slightly ahead of you if several of the coins they already have in their sets have CAC's. Additionally, for the sets ranked slightly ahead of you that have some of their coins possessing CAC's, it'll now become slightly more difficult for you pass them in ranking due to the extra points they'll be given. Sorry for this news. Naturally, as you fill your empty slots, even with coins without a CAC, that will still enable you to move up significantly in ranking, but "the hill just got a tiny bit steeper".

Hi Steven,
Yes I did see the article. Since my goal was to be in the top 100 and I'm at 83 with 17 coins to go I think I'll meet my goal :)
The ranking is nice but my real goal is a 100% complete set of coins that have visual appeal to me. So while I would like to be in the top 10, I'll doubt it will ever happen.
Like you said in your email, " I'm absolutely convinced that you get the exact same pleasure from your collection as I do from mine." and it's true no matter the ranking.
(I hope it's ok that I posted that, if it's not I'll remove it)
What this will do is make me look at coins with CAC if the price /visual appeal is there.

Yes, you've MET your goal, and exceeded it nicely, and will do so even more as you complete your set. Yes, you have my permission to quote what I told you privately via email. All is good! And yes, there are MANY coins in the pricing area you want where the pricing differential between those with CAC's and coins without CAC's is very small. So I fully agree if you see a coin you need where YOU like the eye appeal, and if the price difference of it having a CAC is small, go for it! That will get you a little point bonus with NGC, and also increase the chance when the time comes to sell that coin by you (or your heirs) of getting fair value. Don't automatically rule out looking at a coin, AND negotiating a price, simply because it has a CAC. Just my Two Cents worth.

Quote: I would not want to see that invoice! I respectfully disagree, for two reasons: 1) For Collector Submitters, they ONLY get charged for coins that get approved for a sticker. They get refunded (or can choose to leave as a credit) the CAC submission fees for coins not approved for a CAC. 2) I strongly believe that for those coins that do get approved, and hence were charged the $15 submission fee, that when the time comes for those coins to be sold by hfjacinto (or his heirs), they'll make back at least the amount of those submission fees. But yes, up front there will be a cost, but in my opinion, will be well worth it.
