It's genuine. It is 1909-S FS-1502 (S/Horizontal S), Stage B. That's the extra metal east of the primary mm. Wexler has the detailed stage B markers, and all are present here. Variety Vista has better photos, but no Stage B details.

IMHO, the scratch details this one because of the depth and location.

thanks FC. forgot about that. not much difference in price but an interesting variety. the scratches must be two separate ones as if they were one it would have transected the MM.

I was messing around with this last night. This coin has a flip in the first 9 that all others don't. I found one coin on PCGS with the S in the right area but not nearly as fat, for lack of a more snooty answer :).

Also, the 0 heavy area at 2 o'clock bothers me. Only example I found heaviness is at bottom.

PCGS:

1909-S-LWC-For-Grading
1909-S-LWC-For-Grading
1909-S-LWC-For-Grading

Match of S I found:

Nice coin...good discussion...I thought I picked up part of the scratch on the left side of the upper curve of the "S" mm?. Maybe it skipped over?
