Hi All,

Just checking in.

Been a part time coin collector since the early '70s.

Nothing too serious, just keep interesting (to me) coins and currency that I get in normal day to day financial transactions. Been known to, however, buy rolls of this that and the other from the local banks as well as items of interest from the US Mint.

Going thru my change today, found a Roosevelt dime.

On the obverse, only able to make out BERTY, mouth, nose, eye, hair and ear. Everything else is gone. Perhaps a grease strike?

On the reverse, an odd wavy pattern thru D STATES and DIME.
Perhaps some sort of material got between the die and planchette?

Anyway, once I figure out how to post up some pictures, I'll do so in the correct forum.

Looking forward to some answers.

Thanks,

RustyFuryIII

to the club Rusty. I guess you can't make out the date. Is it silver?

No, not silver. Pretty modern far as I can tell.

The chin, mouth, nose, hair and ear look like an island or volcano in the middle of the coin. BERTY is very smooth/faint.

Everything else looks to have been obliterated.

I looked up damaged coins post strike, couldn't find anything like this. With the condition of the reverse, I think not.

Is it best to post up pictures in this thread? Or start another thread?

Thanks

It might be some type of struck thru.

Yes, absolutely post pictures here. The entire coin front and back, then zoom in on the area in question.

EDIT: Never mind, Bobby is right.

I posted several pictures in the sub forum - US Modern Variety and Error Coins. Guessing that's where it should've gone.
