Well, while it might be a fake, I think the starting price shouldn't be the "tell all" sign for a fake coin. After all, many people when they do have something of value, will start it at $0.99 to cut back on paying ebay such high fees. If it really is worth something significant, then the chances that it will eventually sell for its worth are much higher. Just my Two Cents as a fellow ebay seller.

Quote: I know of a jeweler who makes this and is very good at it. He changes an authentic 1903s 1 peso US Philippines to 1906s a very rare date. He sells it as altered date. I'd turn him in. Just because he's upfront about the date doesn't mean the guy that buys it will be. It's illegal and detrimental to the hobby as a whole. Also, if he's doing this, what else is he doing that he's not telling? Do us all a favor and pick up the phone.

From where he is, he does not break any law, just like the chinese who makes fake coins. There is always somebody who will do this as there is a demand for it. The minute the buying stops, that will be the minute the selling will stop. The law of supply and demand.

I'm sorry but that's an incredibly lousy attitude. I'm sure glad the cops in my neighborhood don't share your views. If it's wrong it's wrong... PERIOD. Trying to lay the blame on the people that buy them is completely ludicrous.

In the states it's wrong, elsewhere it is not. If no laws are broken no crime is commited PERIOD. FYI, In other countries the buyers are also guilty of the crime, be it falsification, drugs or copyright piracy. Whether you like it or not that is life my friend and this problem has been there for ages and it will continue for ages to come.

By the way, you can start by turning in everyone who sells in ebay fake and altered coins, if you think they are doing something illegal.

You won't be so flippant about it when you or someone close to you gets stung with one of these pieces of crap.
Criminal or not, you know it's not ethical, the guy doing it knows it's not ethical, and everyone here knows it's not ethical. To condone it, is not ethical. End of story.

Still, I believe the argument was about it being illegal and not ethical.

Maybe you can do something about it my friend. The only thing I can tell you, If no laws are broken, no crime is committed. That is the end of story.

Well, I'll just add this...anybody who sells a coin here under similar pretenses will come under immediate scrutiny. But sure--I could give this guy some "benefit of doubt"--from a distance. But that's quite different if he came here and someone I know dropped $265 for that POS. I only apply the same standards here I apply to myself.
