Hi all,

I was wondering if someone can help me ID this cash coin. It doesn't look like the typical Chinese ones I think...

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I speak a bit of mandarin and read well enough to know how to look up characters. Did a bit of google searching and found the coin posted with the correct translation on this pinterest site (https://www.pinterest.com/pin/57561...099990948/):

"Obverse side of a Huang Song Tong Bao (#30343;#23435;#36890;#23542;) 1 cash coin cast from AD 1038-1040 during the 'Baoyuan (#23542;#20803;)' reign title of Emperor Renzong (#20161;#23447;) (1022-1063 AD), of the Northern Song (#21271;#23435;) Dynasty (960- 1127 AD). The obverse side features 'seal' script while the reverse side is plain. 25mm in size; 4 grams in weight. S-497"

This appears to be the same coin you posted.
Hope that helps!

After posting, I see the forum format here didn't support the Chinese characters when the content was pasted in. I have no affiliation w/ the pinterest user, but you can see the characters if you follow the link.
Thanks for posting the coin! Was fun chasing it down.
