Just fyi -
Sent in three Pre 1921 Morgan's for PCGS grading express. Arrived on Jan 25. Has been in 'Grading' for approximately one week. Unsure how long the grading stage takes; however I am not desperate for them to return fast. First time doing a send-in so it's relatively exciting. Will keep this updated.

I sent in the Morgan/Peace commems back in November and were shown as received 11/19 under "modern" grading. Just today status turned to "encapsulation".

Today they updated the status to the QC stage so hopefully the backlog is behind me and will be out sometime by the end of the week.

Further update: Grades were posted on my account. Hoping this means they get shipped back tomorrow.
Basically 3 months door to door for "modern" grading it looks like.

Just got the tracking number today for return shipping.
Ya 3 months is long. When I originally sent it, the estimated turnaround was (I think) 20 business days then it kept creeping higher and higher. I finally emailed them a couple weeks ago and basically got an apology using COVID, demand, etc as an excuse.
If was I was a dealer who had inventory tied up with them I want to get back quick to sell, I wouldn't be happy.

One way to speed up grading is hire many more graders--hoping/trusting they had sufficient skills/abilities to do credible work. Could be risky.

Not really... it's actually a tough hire. You have to have the skills - and there aren't a lot of places to develop them. You have to live in the right location or we willing to move. And frankly, it's not all that different than any other factory job sitting in a dark room and doing a repetitive task.
Day 1 - here's how the computer system works. Day 2 - here's a box of 500 ASEs - have them all graded by 4pm. Day 3 - here's a box of 500 ASEs - have them all graded by 4pm. Day 4...50 see day 2 & 3

ijn1944 - not saying you are wrong, and given some of the grades that get posted here (thankfully, a small percentage of the churn) - it's hard not to think that at least the moderns are being graded by medium smart cats.
Line them up in piles.
Cat walks past.
Smack - 69
SMACK - 68
smack - more 69s
the rest get 70s

Still waiting for the coins I submitted (through my local shop) on 12/20/2021. Supposedly PCGS has been swamped with submissions. The shop tells me they haven't gotten back some coins sent in November.
