I assume buying undergraded coins is only possible at auctions. I cannot imagine that any coin dealer would sell this coin for VF20 money.

with that hair detail someone messed up big time at PCGS. either they had little experience with early coppers and saw strike as wear, deducted way too much for weak strike or was in a hurry to get out of there that day. I think you stole this one Grape. at worst this is a nice XF coin. nice buy

When you get the coin in hand, please post some more photos. I had the coin a VF35 because the reverse looked VF30 with wear on the leaves and corrosion near the rim with a scratch over the R. The obverse looked XF 40 as I took the back of the hair as strike and front hair as wear. The front of the bust shows wear but the coin was struck off center and no rim to protect the front of the bust. There was also a hit to the rim.

Not always, my 1882 Shield is a great example. Bought off ebay in an NGC MS64 Fat Holder, received a Gold Bean and is currently at PCGS for crossover, I fully expect a MS66.
