Clad errors should be under weight a bit and show the red color under the missing cladding. Also they can be a tend to be a bit weaker on the strike because of the missing cladding reducing the height of the planchet:
Red in color not brown.
Note weakness of the strike on both sides?
Not to be fooled by brown color coins which are found with a metal detector:
When the color rubs off the high spots, the original color comes back through:
