I ran out of gas. I, I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts...

This gave me a good laugh...

Why do you get upset if someone refers to a cent as a penny and yet don't mind calling it a Buffalo nickel? (Should be bison!)

Technically, the nickels don't say "nickel" like the dime or quarter, they say 5-cents like the cent (penny) So shouldn't we call them 5-cent pieces?

I'm just glad to see that we are not the only ones that have to put up with the horrid scripts they force the talking heads of local news to read.
"..putting his Two Cents about what he calls a lot of NONSENSE over a traffic ticket."..."the town is demanding he CHANGE his ways"...
Give me a break. Do they have to be so PUNNY all the time?

And if it would've been a couple of dudes on the local news stations here in Houston that barged into the courthouse there's no way they would've agreed to turn the camera off. There would've been a scuffle but that camera would've kept on rolling while they were forcibly ejected from the building.

a Penny is a British denomination, a Cent is a US denomination.

You better let the U.S. Mint know about this.....they've been calling them pennies for years.

Somewhere in the back of my mind I thought there was a limitation on the legal tender status of the cent.

Someone help me here, am I just imagining this?

No limit on them in the US, at least a few other countries do. There was a court case where a guy tried to pay his lawyer something like 20 bags of coins, and the lawyer sued and won, but I suspect that it was because the client admitted in court that he did it only to inconvenience the lawyer.

Not necessarily- if the penny is British, and the Two Cents are U.S., depending on the exchange rate you're somewhere between a Half Cent and breaking even. :)

I would like my half-cent change back, pleasethx!

I am always tempted to pay taxes and any other .gov debts via Zincolns... save me a trip to the change counter.

It is probably my favourite movie of all time. Being from the Chicago area originally, it has a special place in my heart and belly (as in always having a good belly laugh)!
