Interesting Spanish coin, Dearborn! I've got a few 5 pesetas and 25 pesetas coins with the prominent date of 1957, then a single star with a 2-digit date of mintage. To be honest, I hadn't realized until now that the tiny number was the actual year of mintage and the prominent date was the start of the series... Foreign coins aren't really a collecting interest of mine, though I've somehow managed to accumulate a lot of them over the decades!

Wow, Dearborn - thanks for the information! I just assumed it was coincidence that all 3 of my Spain 50 Centimos are dated 1949 - I'll have to dig them out and check the stars.

Very nice Numis! There are a few 'sets' out there I know of 3 - 1949, 1957, 1963, 1966,1975, and 1980 I wonder how many more 'Star' dated sets there are... Time to go looking

Here is a nice little coin just in today. 1962 Nepal 1 Paisa - 1.4g and 16.7mm I had to learn how to read the Nepalese dating script to ensure that the date is correct. Here is a great coin date reading site. For this coin I'll short cut to the Nepal coin I have, but you can edit the url to get back to the beginning and if you are to select a country that has alternate dating schemes (Arabic, Nepalese, or others I can't think of at the moment the page will help you decipher the date. to convert to AD dates that most of the world uses today. edit - Well I guess that this link is not allowed here on the forum - if you want it - email me for the link privately.
