First of all, I NEVER threatened anything. I misquoted myself, go figure. I just told the seller I would "hold off" on the feedback till I heard from them. Secondly, there is no buyer's remorse. The seller offered to take them back and told them no, I will keep them. Do I feel that the seller's listing was abiguous, absolutely, and I let the seller know it. Also, I won the auction on December 8th, made my Paypal payment on December 8th, and received my coins today, December 22nd. So I paid $25.00 for two rolls of wheats. No big deal.
Oh yea, I already left a POSITIVE feedback on both rolls of "cents!"

The points about feedback blackmail are correct. But from your post it didn't say that you made specific demands from the seller, just that you are reserving your feedback until you hear from him. If he offers a return, then you're all set. If he says tough luck... There is nothing stopping you from giving negative feedback as an expression of disappointment in your purchase. As a matter of fact I would encourage it--especially if you purchased a roll (or rolls) that were advertised as Quote: unsearched . The rolls you received were only unsearched after their composition was predetermined and they were rolled up by the seller. The only way to stop this once you've been taken in is to use your powers for good--to warn others--not to search for some remedy that won't fully nullify your disappointment.

Again, this is why I do not buy "unsearched" rolls from ebay, there is no such thing and it does nothing but trouble for both parties half the time. I really enjoy reading the sellers reason for them being unsearched, that is half the fun. Lots of lies etc. Lesson learned I guess.

I can get a nice mix of Wheat's from my dealer all day long for 5 cents each. That seller is doing VERY well selling those at 25 cents a piece and then seeding with some low quality silver dimes and an occasional 50's BU. I can't blame the seller, if people are willing to pay, I'm sure he's willing to take the money. I stand by my claim that all Wheats are searched...unless you get lucky with a friends jar stashed away for decades. LOL

No offense intended MtnCoinMan. Many dealers sell bags of wheaties for 4-5 cents each. I've had a lot of fun searching through them and occasionally get one from the teens/twenties out of the bag. It's usually Good or VG at best but it's a great way to spend a couple hours on a cold winter day. The only ebay seller I'd trust on "unsearched" is rkess. I've gotten some really good deals from him and he's honest. His listings state "unsearched by me" and it's true.

Quote: BadThad: "I can get a nice mix of Wheat's from my dealer all day long for 5 cents each." Same here! My local dealers' bags contain much more percentage of prewar Cents than the 'unsearched' bags on ebay . The dealers add some BU 40's and 50's Wheats to the bags (why not? they sell BU rolls of same!), 'seed' coins for sure but they are upfront about them... I got a dozen BU 1942-S Cents in one bag. I bought a few 'unsearched' bags on ebay just to compare; they have mostly 40's/50's circulated. One bag had more prewar Cents and some 'better dates' such as a 1910-S, 1924-D and 1931-D. (in G-VG) Those three I would see as likely 'seed' coins! (for positive feedback and to encourage another purchase!) To be fair, a number of the ebay sellers add 'bonus' coins to the bag that are proudly declared in the listing. One of my bags came with a Mercury dime, a Silver Roosevelt dime, a Silver Quarter and a Walking Liberty Half-Dollar as bonus coins (and they were all nice-looking VF grade, too).

One bag I bought from my dealer was LOADED with 40's BU's. Now, he doesn't do this intentionally, he just takes in so many Wheat cents he just tosses them in a bag. He doesn't have the time nor desire to search all those coins....there's just too many. It was kind of funny last them he sold me one of these. He was dumping the bag into a coin counter after he quoted me 5 cents per....but...there was a TON of BU wheats in the bag and I saw his face....he was surprized! LOLOLOLOLOL It was a kind of look like "what did I just do"? I saw him picking a few BU's up and checking them...but it was too late. Once he quotes a price, he sticks to it. That was the best dang bag of Wheats EVER. Not only did it have all those BU's 40/50's, but most of the coins were clean and F/EF from teens up. One bad thing, he hasn't sold me a bag since and I bug him every time I go in for one. I think he's decided he better do some seaching next time he sells one.

BadThad, this is when you send in someone else for you to buy them, he can not know all the same people you do. I love my dealer, they sell them for $.03 a piece with no complaints or excuses. Over the last few months I have been able to fill a lot of holes in some of my lower grade sets and actually surprised at some of the higher grade coins that have worked their way into my Dansco folder. The best find yet is a 1914-S in about F02 condition, it would be better but it hit something in the counter and banged it up a little bit.
I also have to agree with the others on this and say that I do not believe in unsearched rolls anymore. At first I did until I started making lists of what I was getting and comparing them to each other. The better deals I have received have been from BU Memorial rolls than the Wheaties. Last year I purchased about 20 rolls or 1960-1970 rolls and ended up making a few sets of MS64+ from the bunch. But like you said, as long as you are happy what you received then you end up with a great deal.

Estate auctions EASILY produce "unseeded" or "unplanted" or "unsearched" batches of wheaties all the time.........try that. When someone has passed away or is moving and there's an "old jug" or old container there to be bid on.......yes.....there's goodies to be found. And most people attending the auction couldn't care less about the "coins" there....just makes me smile.......cause then they're MINE MINE MINE !.....

I just picked up a lot of 4700+ wheats from my local dealer for 4 cents apiece and it had about 50 AU/BU pieces, and two tough dates, 11S ( I think this is 5th lowest mintage) and 33D. Heavy on 40s and 50s, but had many teens and 20s with mint marks (but no semi-keys). It unfortunately had about 100 60s and 70s memorial cents in there. It also had a couple Indian Head cents, a few old Canadian cents and a Barber dime. I think it was unsearched by the dealer, but they came into the store already mostly searched. Compared to ebay lots, I think the dealer's lot is as good as if not better.

Searching wheats is fun! As long as you don't believe all the unsearched hype, you can still find some decent coins. As I mentioned in a previous post, many rolls and bags sold by rkess on ebay have turned out good for me. He only claims they are "unsearched by me" and he's an honest seller. I've been off work for the holidays and finally went through several rolls I bought from him last fall and never opened. Several nice coins, from wheats 1909 to 1929 in G to F, along with several LMC, Canadians, and even a couple from Europe turned up. The real kickers were a 1919-S in EF and an '09 VDB in AU (after Verdi-Gone they look great!). Those 2 coins alone are worth more than the $25 I paid for the 10 rolls! Believe me when I saw the 2 dates ('19 & '09) on coins that looked that good; I said huh!

Ahh the good old "unsearched wheaties"...I am willing to sell anyone as many wheaties as they want for $.25 per wheatie and I can guarantee you that they are UNSEARCHED....by me. I find it pretty hard to believe that rolls have been sitting around for 60+ yrs and not been search. Though there are exceptions. Who ever would buy these "unsearched rolls", whether it be through an estate sale or whatever, I just find it hard to believe that someone is trying to sell something, for a profit, without maximizing their full potential by searching them themselves...just my opinion

As a final follow up, I gave the seller "positive" ratings and let her know that I took the risk when I bought the rolls on ebay. So I paid $12 for 4-5 bucks worth of coins. I did fill up over a dozen holes in my Dansco, so that was the positive.
