I have a 1970 D quarter I found while looking through some uncirculated mint set I have had for years. I looked up the DDR's on both Variety Vista and Wexler's and could not find a match. Hoping you could provide your thoughts on this one. Thanks for the help.
That is because what you are looking at is not a doubled die, but Machine Doubling. On a doubled die, you would see the spread on the center of the devices, not looking at the outside edges of the devices. That is where you find Machine Doubling. Here is a side by side of a normal reverse quarter and a DDR: Note the lower one. Do you see the doubling on the sides of the devices, or on the center of the devices. On a doubled die, the centers of the closed devices will show a smaller area there. Also look at the leaves. They are even doubled.
