Hey y'all,

I'm new to the collecting thing and could really use some incite on this coin. I'm still learning how to spot errors and the difference between them. I have a 1969-s nickel that just seems like theres something off about it. Am I imagining things or is something off about the s mint mark? Please let me know. I cant wait to see some of the responses. Thank you!

P.s. I apologize for the pictures if they are kinda bad I'm only able to use my cell phone to snap pictures.

Looks like a pretty nice circulated normal coin to me.
Looks like it might have a re-punched mintmark at first but the date seems to have the same Machine Doubling or die wear?

Looks like some slight Die Deterioration Doubling to me. Worn dies are the cause of this effect.

Note on the date you can also see the same thing on the digits. So die wear is what I'm seeing.

Your photos look fine! It might help a bit to crop them closer, but otherwise they're good!

your nickel is a proof, not meant to be circulated, the mint released them in sets.If you found it in change then someone broke open the set and circulated the coin. The mint of San Francisco made their mark up to 1954 on circulated coins, started up again in 1968, however only on proof coins in sets.

I respectfully disagree oddguy,

There are 1968 D&S, 1969 D&S and 1970 D&S Jefferson nickels that were made as business strikes and they circulated. There is one of each in US Mint Sets. There were also the completely different proof S mintmarked coins in US Proof Sets.

120 Million of these were struck. It is a business strike example. TNG is correct.
