Just found this morgan in my collection and it looks pristine. I guess I overlooked it and a handful of others while I've been trying to complete a date set. Looks like possibly proof like fields. Gorgeous toning on the reverse. Fairly clean cheek and fields. Looks a little flat in pictures, but very lustrous and has a great cartwheel. Thinking of sending it in instead of putting it in an album. Any thoughts on possible grades?

How does somebody "overlook" an 1882 CC in this condition? If it was mine you can believe I'd know that I owned it and I'd know where it was.

Well I kind of went a little crazy with collecting BU Morgan dollars in an effort to find the best ones for my album and I have no clue where I even picked this one up. I guess I was newer to collecting when I picked it up and was mainly looking for blast white morgans. I was just flipping through my coins and this toning caught my eye, I like toned coins more now, blast white is pretty much always dipped. So not sure how long I have had it, but it's probably one of the nicest coins I own. No clue how I looked over it.

Cool. Wish I had a forgotten CC Morgan somewhere in my stash. Sadly, not the case.

It's an attractive Morgan, but there appears to be slight wear on the hair and eagle feathers, so I'd also say AU-58. If you're interested, it looks like a scarce VAM, either VAM-2C3 or -2C4, with a doubled lip, die break at the back of the cap, and multiple clashes on the reverse.

AU-55
If you have an album for lots of Morgans, and have only a few slabs, you also have a storage / presentation problem.

Some justify slabbing for value reasons at plus $100 per coin. If you already have quite a few Morgans in the album that have a value of more than $100, your storage / presentation problem is magnified.

I mostly have them organized by date and mint mark in 2.5s and have slowly started submitting some for slabbing by NGC to get a more protected collection. I'm still fairly new to collecting so I'm still learning as I go. Also, I will definitely look into those VAMs Zurie. Thank you for the heads up that would be neat to have a the VAM to add to the slab label. Looking at it under a video microscope it has crazy clashes and doubling all over its pretty beautiful. I think it is a 2C4 due to very slight die rotation on the reverse. I didn't even think to look for any VAMs. Thank you.

not a fan of the blotchy toning especially the reverse. in fact the coin may have been dipped a while back and retoned. the 82(CC) are typically strong strikes and even though this coin is not MS you can still get a feel for the strike which might be tad short. AU53 possibly 55. I cant see this on at 58 but it is CC
