Strangely I found ZERO dimes of any type from 1955!

Actually, given my two experiences with hoards of Dimes, this doesn't surprise me at all. 1955 coins of all denominations were widely hoarded thanks to many of them having lower than normal mintages. The 1955-S Cent, 1955 Nickel, all three mints of 1955 Dimes, and the 1955-D Quarter were all saved in quantity because of their mintages. It is not uncommon to see Original Bank-Wrapped rolls of 1955 Dimes (from all three mints) offered on ebay. Obviously, pretty much almost all silver 1955 coins are out of circulation, but finding 1955-S cents and 1955 Philly nickels in circulation is quite the challenge today - the latter is particularly hard to find for us West coasters.

When I went through my late Grandpa's hoard of about 1,000 silver dimes ovwe 25 years ago, there was only one 1955 coin represented - a 1955-S in AU (weakly struck though)... This year, I managed to find nine solid rolls of silver dimes thanks to a collection dump at one of my local banks. Three of them were solid 1964-D OBWs, but amongst the other 300 dimes, there were nine Mercuries and no 1955-dated coins.

Going through his box of what I thought was empty 2X2's I did find a 1955S, D and no mint mark dime in 2X2's. All three appear to be uncirculated

All the halves have been sorted! I bought this online (it's one of the few I could find)

Noob-Here-Asking-The-Group-

Between the loose coins I sorted and what he already had in folders this is what it looks like.

I'm only missing five. I figure I can finish this off for $100 or so. I'm not interested in getting the highest grade or anything like that. They may come later.

I did not count the Walkers but I figure there is maybe a full roll of those. There are AT LEAST two full rolls of '64s and maybe 3/4 roll of 40%ers. I almost forgot, I did find one Barber half, an 1895. I think it's a "P", the back so worn I couldn't find any other mint mark

Now all I have left to do is finish counting the halves, count most of the pennies and figure out what I'm going to do with all this stuff!

Dansco albums are definitely the best ones out there. Nice job!

Even though the 1953 is the rarest coin of the Franklin series, you'll probably end up paying more for the 1949-S and 1955 coins.

As for what you want to do with "all this stuff" I guess it depends on your interest and needs...

With the halves in the Dansco, this is turning into a wonderful tribute to your dad. I'm sure we speak for many here that we appreciate this effort of yours!

So now that I'm done, for the most part, going through all this stuff I asked my mother if she has anything else. She found another old cigar type box that has silver dollars and many foreign items in it! I plan on going through that this weekend. Then hopefully this odyssey will be done.

She then proceeded to tell me that she has ONE coin that she keeps hidden. Apparently it was given to her by a neighbor when she was a child. It's a $5 gold 1895 Liberty Head! She has it in a 2X2. It appears to be in excellent condition. I'm mad at myself for not taking pictures of it. She asked me if I wanted that one too. I told her, "You've had it for over 70 years no need to give it to me now."

Has a few more holes than the Franklin album. My dad had the 1941 marked as uncirculated. The one in unmarked hole in the bottom right is a 191X. I think it's a 1917 but my son couldn't confirm
