1. you posted this in the wrong forum. - I'll request it to be moved to the proper place where it will get more proper attention.
2. Is that mark incuse (dented in) or raised above?

Possibly squeezed against the rim of another coin. Does the arc match the size of another penny, for example? Is there a corresponding indentation on the obverse?

Could be a struck through. The rim has no mark so not a squeeze from another coin based on what I can see in the pics.

Quote: Possibly squeezed against the rim of another coin. probably not as it would go through the rims

Just watch out for these "error coin makers" as selling fake errors has become a money maker on ebay - Remember, if it is too good to be true then usually it is!

Why not struck through wire? I don't see any flow along the edges, based on pics.

If the coin was damaged, it would show some flattening on the obverse. But I see no wave on the devices, so I feel it could be a struck through error. If it were a coin rim, the affected areas would be a lot wider. You've seen a rim bur? The are a lot larger than this. Also a hammered coin would alter the opposite side on the coin. Squeeze through a punch leaving the reverse altered: These two coins (1967) were found in a batch of BU 1967 cents. In one of the tubes, I found both of these. Looks like the one who rolled up the tube, altered these Two Cents. So damage can appear on BU looking coins. Just depends on the owner was experimenting to make a mint error, but realize it didn't look like a mint error, and put them into the tube.
