Not really my place to say this but:

This is going to a bad place fast. The overall feelings on SGS have been said. He has stated his feelings on them as well. If he wishes to keep purchasing them, that is his decision, and I also feel he should not be ridiculed based on his opinion.

I am not an investor either, but I do plan on leaving my collection to someone in my family and I would like them to be able to cash them in if they needed to if they decide the hobby isn't for them. I never said you shouldn't collect what ever you want I am just saying don't expect for others on this forum to follow suit. I just don't understand why someone would pay money for a PF-70 that probably is a PF-68 when they can get a PF-69 from a reputable company for about the same amount of money and it hold its value for their family in the future if something was to happen.

You are clear and free to purchase what you want and no one will ever fault you for that but trying to come here and say how great this company is when we all know different is totally different. We have new members here and when they see another member praise a company they start to think this company can be trusted and thats the knowledgeable collectors responsibility to make sure those new members know that what is being said isn't totally fact and even though one person may be happy with the coins in those slabs most of the hobby isn't and wouldn't touch them if ever there is a time they have to sale.

If you have been around forums very long you would know we have had to break some peoples hearts who thought they were left a small fortune in coins when they have high graded coins in no name slabs and we have to be the one who tells them that they basically have pocket change in a fancy holder and break their hearts and leaves a bad taste in their mouth and turns them away from the hobby because they have been told one thing by someone close to them maybe for many years and when time comes to cash in on what they have been told they find out its not what they have been told, now who do you think that they want to believe, the person close to them or the person on a forum they just met (even though the person on the forum is knowledgeable and telling them the truth). We not only have to think about the collectors now, we have to think about the future numismatists as well

Nor was that meant.. we just want to make sure collectors understand about slabbers like this. Sure, there are deals to be had from their auctions, just like everywhere else, just as long as the person bidding understands they aren't getting a reputable company's grading service like they would normally get with NGC or PCGS. (And even with those company's slabs, you should grade that coin yourself and not just buy it because it's slabbed by them!) Just like Bryan said.. having to tell someone their 'fortune' is pocket change (whether that person bought it themselves or inherited it) breaks both their heart and ours, so any opportunity we get to mentor, we take it. No ridicule intended or implied.

I had a friend buy some SGS coins. They were listed at MS-67, but were XF-40 at best. He only paid about 10% over silver price for them though so not a big problem there.
