I picked this up in an auction the other day, and quite honestly, the picture that the seller posted really made it look better than it is. I suppose it could have been worse, but the pictures really had me thinking it might be a grade or two better before I had it in hand. The gold image is the sellers, the others are mine.

Anyway, it is what it is. I didn't pay too much for the coin so it's not the end of the world, but like always, what do you think?

Sometimes it's a pain to get a sense for a coin's in-hand, natural light, authentic color. Looking at the yellow/gold image, it appears the photo's white balance is off. I assume it's in a white 2x2, which looks pale yellow/gold. If the 2x2 is indeed white in-hand, then that's a good indication there's a white balance issue. Plus the seller's, photo is a bit soft--low(er) resolution. I've seen worse photos.

I am at 40/45 maybe Details from cleanings. There is some luster in protected areas. I see some hairlines under the toning that looks like an old cleaning.

The yellow photo is hiding the hairlines pretty well. Just shows you to be very careful when biding on coins with off-color pictures.
(edit to add) Why not go for a really nice AU-58? Only about $10-15 more than an AU-50.
