This 2017-D dime was found in some spare change. The flame on the REV exhibits split flame tips which appears to be die doubling. There is also apparent doubling on some of the letters in USA, especially the T and A in STATES. There are no listings of a DDR for this dime. Is the doubling possibly a new DDR or something else? Thanks in advance for your input.

I see what you're talking about, but I'm leaning towards a lighting trick or MD, possibly a combination of both.

The DDR's are not on that area of the coin:

Often more towards the higher areas:

Not on the outside edges of devices.

Coop, Thank-you! You are so kind to provide input. I know that this is not a listed DDR. The question is whether this is a new DDR. Is this MD in your opinion? I thought MD occurred in shelf-like doubling of a device. This is not what we are seeing on this coin--would you agree? Are split flames confirmed and listed as DDR on other Rosies?
And, merclover, Thank-you! While I appreciate your response, I have to say that I have examined hundreds of other Rosies with the same scope and lighting without seeing split flames on the reverse. This is the only one which I have examined with the same scope and lighting which has such reverse doubling. I have multiple images photographed of this coin taken from all angles which exhibit the split flames.
So, if MD and lighting can be ruled out, who would you send it to establish up or down that it is a new DDR?

And quarterhoarder72, thanks also to you for your response. Can you rule out that the coin is actually a new DDR? If you had any doubt, who would you send it to for confirmation up or down?

Take a look at Variety Vista listing for dimes. Note the DDOs are pretty much done in the 1970's with just one other year listed. The single squeeze dime obverses are duds. Then check out the DDRs. They also have little listings after the 1970's, except there are many DDRs on the single squeeze reverses. So, save your eyes on the obverses. Look for the target ares for the single squeeze dies. I feel there are many more examples to be found on the post 2000 dimes. Many don't know what to look for. So save your eyes and look at the listing, to see where to look. Many more are probably be found, when more take the time to see where to look.

This isn't what a DDR would look like on a die made using single squeeze hubbing. I am guessing just a trick of the lighting.

Coop, there are no DDR listings of any Denver Rosies on Variety Vista in the 2000s. Does that mean that this coin cannot be a new DDR, and that we should not even look at Denver Rosies in the 2000 to date time frame for new DDRs?
