I would say it is good to know in case someone comes across a desirable variety or error on one of these painted examples.

Quote: True, but why spend the time and effort for a net yield of $0.25? I paid spot for may of the painted silver ASE's. My LCS pays less for painted Silver coins. So, soak them to remove the paint, then sell them. It just take a little effort and some time to sell or trade them.

Quote: "Collect these if you will, but you will never recoup your investment." I would bet that 90% of coin collectors do not get their investment back, and most of that last 10% will be the collectors heirs.

I never expect it because I will never sell them.

Quote: I would bet that 90% of coin collectors do not get their investment back Quote: I never expect it because I will never sell them I drive the same roads as you two. I know I'll never make a penny profit from my coin collecting, but I don't care either. If you want to be a snake oil salesman (flipper/dealer) then that's different. I checked out some colored quarters the last time I went to a coin show. I liked a lot of them and would have picked them up if they were 50c - 75c each, but this dealer was looking for $3.00 each. Way too much for me to give my money away for.

Here is a 2002 quarter of Elvis baby. This belonged to my mom who passed away several years ago. Not worth much I know. She also had 20 UNC Morgan dollars that disappeared when the hired healthcare workers came to take care of her and also her $5,000 wedding ring inside a drawer, gone. To this day I don't know if it was a healthcare worker or a greedy relative who came to visit during her final days. So HIDE any valuables if you are in the same position with a dying relative.

Quote: I would bet that 90% of coin collectors do not get their investment back That's why it's called collecting and not flipping ... I dunno how much more definitive the word "collect" could be!

The one I did acetone off the color,
/a/ took forever and only came off with some mechanical assistance.
/b/ the underlying coin was scratched up so the color adhered.
