I just ordered from the United States Mint for the first time since my early teens (1971 - 1976). I got all of the 2021 dollars I wanted but it was quite an effort and each sold out in 20 to 30 minutes. What I wondered about was , is this typical for all mint releases? Are all of the ASE releases as chaotic as the silver dollar release was? Do most mint items have a higher resale value now or is it "hit or miss" on aftermarket values.

It's not too common. Out of all the offerings from the mint, it's a few select items each year causing this. It generally happens for limited items based on popular series, like the ASEs (just wait until that two coin set comes out).

Also, gold and silver are having a run, and the AGES and ASEs just received new designs, so that's adding to the furor.

Conventional wisdom is that you can get US Mint products cheaper on the secondary market but I rarely see that in most of the items I'm searching for. I should say that all of my shopping is done on ebay so of course YMMV. You also will be dealing with cherrypicked items unless you get them directly from the Mint.

Only for the limited releases or hyped ones that people think they can bank on.

For me, the first time there were web site issues was for the 2011 25th Anniversary ASE set. So yeah, this nonsense has been going on for a DECADE.
