Those are cracks and very common on many Lincolns, especially 83's. I thought the area you pointed out at the west base of the memorial was part of the design but it's not, I think it's either a die chip or possibly the start of zinc rot. Here is an 83 I just posted tonight on another thread to show how they crack up.1983-LMC--Die-Chip-Questions
