Hello again. Why are the letters skinny on the obverse and fat on reverse . Is the Ike dollar a type or error and the mint mark looks different. Can anyone please help

This is the Variety 1 Bicentennial Ike. The Variety 2 has reverse lettering more similar to the obverse.

Not sure if the reason, it is just how it was designed, but if anything thinks it is "wrong" then it was "corrected" with the second variety.

It's just a matter of design.

And the type 1 clad out of Philly is the grade rarity. Hard to find in MS65 and above. I've scoured enough ugly '75 unc sets to know from personal experience.

Yup. Mine is one of only two MS-64 (lowest grade) in my collection.

I've never found one that I thought would be worth the gamble to get graded, but I'll keep looking. Mine would be MS64 at best - and on a good day at the TPG.

It is a tough job!

I passed on several MS-65 not just because of price. While the technical grade might be spot on, the eye appeal would be lacking. The best looking MS-65 I found had a price premium that I could not justify with my budget.

I am happy with this MS-64, though.

But for those of us who are Ike maniacs, it's a labor of love.

There are people that actually collect these things?
