I pulled this from a roll today. This coin looks just really worn at first glance, but Abe's cheekbone and jaw are separated and defined. All of the lettering and fine detail seem blurry, thick, and indistinct. Is this possibly from a really worn die, or is it some other type of error? So what do you make of this?

Looks like an extremely worn die at first glance. If it is, it's a great find! I've never seen an 81 with dies that bad.

You should post this in the error forum, although I wouldn't consider it an error, just an example coin.

I think you will find this coin was placed between 2 pieces of leather and pounded with a hammer. It's post mint dammage.

Is it possible that the die is somehow capped or extremely doubled? It just looks so odd in person since there is almost no separation between the letters, the 9, 8, and D are totally filled on the obverse, and there are actually some features in high relief yet almost no detail can be seen on the memorial.
