Sim, eu falou Português

I was born in Portugal and moved to the US when I was 7, I don't speak as well as I should but I still speak it.

Thanks for the information.
I'll get back to you when I need a translation which google can't do properly

Another upgrade, I have thing for weird amounts, I really like the US 3 cent coins and Portugal had a 4 Centavos, so when a BU example appeared I had to have it.
Excellent!

And the last coin I picked up from Baltimore, this is a 100 Reis which became 10 centavos after the overthrow of the Monarchy (1000 Reis = 1 Escudo = 100 Centavos). I personally liked the 10 Centavos silver design more.

The 100 reis reminds of US coins with the presidents. This coin was only a 2 year issue as the monarchy of Manuel II only lasted a little over 2 years.

Can't believe I had not discovered this thread until now.

Your coins are incredible, so shiny and beautiful and a great history lesson on Portugal's history, economy and its currency.

Playing catch up now - only up to Page 7.

I don't have many Portuguese coins, but years ago remember I had a huge copper 40 Reis from 1847 and some of those 1920s to 1960s escudos.

Now mainly just have modern ones from the 1960s onwards - but do have the large 20, 50, 100 and 200 Escudos of the pre Euro era.

I also have some worn part silver Angolan and Mocambique coins of the 1950s and 1960s.

That's a shame. I've added 9 new coins in the last few months.

Perhaps time for you to take a vacation to Portugal and visit several coin shops.
I have been doing something similar and have ordered a couple of coins and medals from Dutch sellers. All delivered to a family member in The Netherlands whom I will visit in the next couple of weeks.
They almost started complaining about me "turning their home into a coin storage facility/post office".
