Very unique looking quarter error. I've seen some like this before spread about date wise, wondering if this is a KNOWN error or a more of a one of a kind type ordeal? Whatever the case, the feel and look are pretty Interesting. And I'm pretty sure this isn't all damage this time lol (hopefully!)

The sides are still ridged and perfect and it's not a dryer. Any ideas?

Not sure what happened to it, but it wasn't struck like that. The coin was altered later. Just a spendable coin.

Looks like an acid dipped coin. PMD
No way it looked like that after the coin was struck.

Cannot happen during the minting process, plus way too many pics. Usually a nice clear shot of the obverse and reverse is sufficient.

I 100% agree that this quarter is the victim of an acid bath, and grinder post mint damage. It didn't leave the mint looking like this!

Maybe spent some time in a heavily chlorinated fountain or pool before being put back into circulation?
