Agreed with Tony. Would certainly like to see the tradition continue. With the addition of tracking, and getting an earlier start, especially for international shipping. This could be played by ear, who knows what state the post office will be in later this year. I think the minimum is fine as is. The public complaining on here this year wasn't necessary. Richard has made the guidelines VERY clear. Should have been handled with a PM to a moderator, rather than public posting, IMO. I vote keep it going

I too would like to see the Secret Santa continue and I also think the tracking is an excellent idea. What would everyone think about looking at changing rule #1? Maybe make it a 100 posts and be a member for 3 months. It might not make a difference but who knows. It's all good on this end.

Not sure about $5 value as it seems to be difficulties for some giftees?

Are you kidding me,$5 in numismatic material is nothing more than a few common wheat cents and some Common date Circulated Mercury dimes . Most members have received much more than that.

If one can't afford the minimum gift amount, then don't join the gift exchange.

I have no problem with the $5 rule.

I am referring to some people who felt "cheapened" by their presents and this year it appears to be an issue?

Please do not misunderstand me on this rule. I am talking about some receivers (giftees, not gifters) here.

Thank you and please keep this conversation respectful and civil.

Yes, nss-52, I agree with your position.

i have been involved in this for a number of years and thoroughly enjoyed it and I have never had a problem I'm game for providing tracking if need be. it could be a result of canada post/covid I vote we keep this going.
here is a thought, maybe everyone who wants in send a $5 deposit to reserve a spot and when their item is received they get their deposit back

If your saying for each participants to send Richard a $5 deposit is way too much work and responsibility for him .

I agree with that. I do however like the suggestion above of requiring tracking. Extra work to keep up with for Santa but might be less frustration in the long run. For US domestic shipments it really is not that much extra if you use Priority Mail. I don't think I've ever spent more than $8-$10 for Priority for Secret Santa shipments.

I also look forward to this every year and hope it continues. All your efforts are very much appreciated, Santa!

I do hope it does continue, this is my second year and have enjoyed both years. I'll join those also suggesting requiring having a tracking number for packages that do go out (to protect the Santa as proof and also keep USPS in check). I use Pirate Ship, so it's easy to create a First Class package for $3 and change since I doubt most gifts going out weigh over a pound. Never had a package not eventually arrive I've shipped with a tracking number.

That said, have had packages somehow arrive very late. Last year, the gift I sent was supposed to go from Chicago to Milwaukee and somehow ended up in Los Angeles in-between before eventually arriving at its destination. I also sent something this week that's supposed to go from Chicago to Springfield, IL and is now currently at a sorting facility in NYC.

I appreciate the work Richard has been doing for us the Secret Santa participants each year and so far I have received wonderful gifts every year, much more valuable than what I was able to send. Although I would respect Richard's decision on that, I'd be happy to see Secret Santa keep going this year as well.
Rest in Peace
