The 1927 S are not considered a true 2 feather among some purists, but the PCG will holder then as such. Both dies have some of the 3rd feather still visible. I took a chance on this one at $4.50, and the scratch makes the 3rd feather look more pronounced than it is. But I think it matches the second die shown in Pope's book. Last image is comparing the worn 27D and 27P 3rd feathers that also came in the lot.

Looks like it to me. I'd call it a match to die pair one. Die 1 has more separation shown from the 2nd feather, die 2 had more separation from the hair/neckline.

Going to have to up my game

Thanks TY2020b. I'm still know. Waffled between 1 and 2 die.

Much better than mine! Great find Jadenusa. I'll have you at 3 if you want. Just let me know.

So I need to save up for 2 coinshow in the next few weeks. Do you two think ones picked from dealers that don't have it labeled should 2 feather count?

...Pope's book

Besides the regulars like CoinFacts, VarietyPlus, Cherrypickers & Pope, is there a web site that lists the top 100 or 200 Buffalo nickel varieties.

I often search for up-to-date new entries & pricing but none of these sites have consistent up-to-date data: just some past sales/prices that could be two or more years old depending upon the auction...etc
