When you are buying coins from a Canadian seller, are there any import duties you have to pay or are there any restrictions?
I don't want to be in for any unpleasant surprises...

You can import 800 USD with zero issues, 2500 on a casual entry .
Unlimited if you wish to use a broker . There is no duty on numismatics
entry item 9705.00.00.60
We are a CANADIAN ebay SELLER and over 80 per cent of our sales are to the
USA . There are never any issues , partly because we use USPS on most items.
The joys of being 25 minutes from the border .

Any tips for a Canadian who is not close to the border that will ship with Canada Post?
