Hi,

I'm not really sure where to put this thread but hopefully here is fine.

I currently have a website that I use as a reference site for a couple of different types of coins (Roman Provincial coins of Diadumenian and Mughal/British India rupees and how to read them. It also hosts other eclectic sections such as silver Egyptian pounds, British 50p's, medieval pennies, world crowns, German Thalers and other odds and sods that I have accumulated over the years

However it's outgrown its space and I really want to re-do the whole thing. I prefer to code in HTML from scratch than rely on prebuilt software as it never formats how I want it to - so I'm looking for a reasonably priced and reliable hosting service where I can just upload the whole thing in one go - plus edit and update when I want to. I'd also need at least a Gb of space.

Does anyone have any experience of hobbyist hosting sites that they could recommend? Nothing will be for sale on it - it's purely for reference / entertainment.

thanks in advance.

I used Hosting UK, hostinguk.net/, when I managed the Borders Family History Website; that used about 10 Gb of space.

Support isn't quick but I rarely needed it.

Hosting UK over the last 3 years was overwhelmingly better than other hosts I used, and it's relatively cheap. I think we paid £35 per year.

They provide a free SSL certificate and it's easy to implement. You may think you don't need one; however, without it, many search engines will say your site is unsafe and browsers may prevent access.

Thanks very much for those tips. Around £70 per year seems reasonable for 10 gig of space - my current space is only 200MB.
