No question this time. I have been posting circulated commemoratives asking if they are real or counterfeit. Collected as a kid and now back into it, I am trying to get the expensive coins before I retire. I am collecting circulated because I like the way the look better and they are more affordable. The point of this post is to thank everyone here for helping me, as I have been having trouble telling if the commemoratives are real or not. So THANK YOU!!

You're very welcome! (It's nice of you to take the time to say "Thank You" - many do not.)

I think you will find that most folks here stand ready to help their fellow collector! I hope you stick around and keep us updated on your set's progress!

If this is an area of interest for you, check out the following thread - it includes a nice selection of circulated classic commemorative coins posted by various CCF'ers:

It was refreshing to read your thank you - know that all of us freely contribute our time and knowledge to support our fellow collectors, so ask away.

True for many, but not all, of the classic silver commemoratives. The coins issued prior to the 'commemorative craze' era 1934-1939 are generally market available in honestly circulated state.

The link commems has provided to the epic Days of thread will show you circulated examples of the entire classic commemorative type set along with some insights on market availability and relative scarcity should you decide to pursue such a set.

As I've said elsewhere, your pursuit of a circulated Lafayette dollar does not need to 'settle' for a damaged/impaired coin. Have some patience and hold out for an honest example.

Best of wishes in filling your new Dansco!
