Penny weighs 3.0 obverse side head and body is shaved flat and the reverse is not filled with dirt but metal.

To the CCF

Looks like it has been ground down on both sides but as you say,
it is just damage and there is no premium for damage.
Still worth 1 cent.

Unless you were there at the time it was damaged, you may never know exactly what happened.
The important thing to know is that it couldn't have happened during the striking of the coin so
it cannot be an error but PMD.

Is it possible?

Must be, you have one.
There is nothing to say it was done intentionally, could have
been damaged in numerous ways. As I said, unless you were
there you probably will never know how it happened.
Shouldn't really matter as damage is damage.

@sun, first welcome to CCF. Second, the back is also sanded flat (not "filled in"). Metal has been removed from both sides of this coin. The weight should be below mint specs.

Post mint damage can be very strange at times and impossible to determine exactly what or why it happened.

It's an Encased Coin escapee.

If you have one in the encasement and you think the coin looks very nice, don't remove it. You will just have a damaged coin removing it. Best to sell it in the encasement. At least there will be a value, other than just a damaged coin. (which is now a cull coin because of being pressed into the holder.

I agree, intentional post mint damage. People do strange things to coins.

The weight shows a difference. 3.0 from 3.1 grams. Clearly metal has been removed.
