Hi all,
A friend has asked for information about this copper cent but US coins not being my field I thought it'd be a good idea to post it here. Any information will be passed on and no doubt received with thanks.

Looks like Massachusetts Cent type Ryder 2b-A. The reverse has die break that extends from the top of the eagle's beak into the letter H above.

Based on the cloudiness around the date, I wonder if this pic wasn't taken through a slab. Is that correct?

It looks like it may have been photographed or scanned through a PVC coin envelope.I cropped in order to get the image in under 300dpi.
Ryder 2b-A: I'm sure that's a useful starting point for research.
Thank you very much.

There are many of them in Heritage auction archives, which is always a good place for research. Search for "1787 Massachusetts cent." You'll need a free login to see prices and larger images. Hard to tell what this one would grade (assuming it's authentic) but it seems to be a rather expensive coin.
