So the 3rd feather is weak on this 1913 D and looked much weaker in the online photo. But in hand, although the solid D and the die clash above the head near "Liberty" look right. But I think the feather is still to intact, and neck isn't broken, so maybe this was shortly before the die polishing event that lead to the 2 feather. Luckily I don't flub it to often, though this was about $15,so not totally overpriced. Edited by sheldius 12/10/2021 7:20 pm

Price seems fair, but not a 2-feather to me.

Yeah I definitely agree Coinfrog. I thought I had it when I purchased on ebay, but definitely the 3rd feather isn't weak enough.

For as "common" as this one is, it's sure seems a tough one to find!
Also worth noting, the 2F variety also had a slight "drooping chin" and the clash from the bisons back is typically present on the obverse field below the feathers. That clash is more prominent on the examples that still display a small portion of the 3rd feather (still considered true 2F). The examples I've seen with the weakest clash from the bisons back, also have the weakest 3rd feather. Likely due to the continued die polishing that removed said clash, and a larger portion of the 3rd feather.

It sure is better to burn on a cheaper coin like this, as opposed to burning on a coin worth hundreds. Glad the coin works in your collection anyway, and good luck with the hunt.

For sure Ty and jacripies. I agree with both. If I'm going to error, better at $15, so my spouse doesn't ban me from hunting after that.

Hi Sheldius, I am new to the forum but really interested in the 2 and 2 1/2 feather varieties as well. I misjudged a few myself, I especially have trouble with the buffalos with the darker patina. I did get lucky on an unattributed 1913 D T1 a few months back which I think is a pretty good match to the 2F examples I've seen on the TPG sites although as Ty mentioned still has some of the 3rd feather. Still working on my photo setup/lighting but attached obv./rev.

Hi Jadenusa and Coinfrog, thanks it was described as EF in the listing for just under $40 but thought it might be closer to AU.

A killer example for sure, one I'd be happy to own. Looks no less than AU to me, AU50/53.

I can't see it higher than EF-45.

Now that does pleases the eye, nice pick up and nice photo. I think it makes AU-50.

Minimal wear on hip between the tail and rump.
I'm gonna say AU-53.
Check the grading guides on this one. (One Buffs coin).
