The 1938-D, alas, is the classic over-achieving (and over-valued) circulated coin. Despite the low mintage, virtually all of them were plucked out of circulation and saved by the early 1950s. But psychology trumps everything in collecting. Even though it is really more difficult to find, for example, a 1937-D in honest XF, a 38-D in the same condition is still valued (officially, anyway) more than three times higher.
It might make G6, but that gouge on the wing and the scratch on the leg basically precludes a trip to the
TPG.
