it is a dent. notice how the rim is distended out beyond the normal circumference.
Also notice how the reverse protrudes out from the hit the obverse took.

Yes, post-strike damage. In your next topic, suggest posting full images of the coin--obverse and reverse. Full images help us better understand the context of what we're looking at.
