This isn't my coin, seller images, but was wondering .................. when a Morgan has this over all frosty look, just what do you believe caused this? Looks to be either AU58 or UNC ........ but so much frost there is no cartwheel, I don't get it. Thanks ......

Well I didn't get an adequate answer in time, so I went ahead and bid on it anyway and won the auction. Just looking at current values I didn't think I could get hurt at my winning bid price. Paid $47.67 with free shipping, and today CPG has this at $128 retail and $95 Greysheet. I don't know if those values are for raw or only graded, but either way, in today's hot market, I'm still not hurt. So now that I own it I will post my own pictures in a new post once I get it. Still interested in what you all think of the Morgan in these seller pictures, about the frosty that is and also the grade.

@khg, I can't answer your questions, but please add a pic of the rev of this coin if you want folks to provide their opinions on a grade. Thx.

I'll do that ............ add the reverse. As I said, they are not my pictures and the auction only had about 30 minutes left and I was trying to hurry and get an answer about the frost not the grade. I'll go and add the reverse to the original post.

High AU detail, apparent scuffs and scrapes on the obverse that hurt eye appeal. Worth whatever price a common circulated Morgan normally brings. I wouldn't pay any premium for it.

It's hard to tell what you have here. The photos are washed out. Sometimes it's worth taking a shot based on sloppy photos.

The thread is label S mint mark. Photo is an O mint mark. Is the thread title or reverse picture wrong?

Really hard to tell by the sellers photos, it looks unc. To me but possibly killed from over dipping. I'd say ms 62 possibly if luster is present.

Sellers photos look overexposed. If it is that dull in person, then it has been over dipped. Looks unc, but hard to tell much from the photos

The photos/scans are most likely causing what you are calling frosty. The white areas in the protected areas on both sides of coin appear to be a light reflection. The only negative that I see on the coin are the marks/scratches in front of her eye.

I suspect the frosted appearance is an artifact of the imaging. Whether it's high AU or unc details, it's hard to go wrong at that price.

taking a second look at her the reverse looks good. the only area that I can see that might be problem is in front of the nose. cant get a good read on that and there are possibly scratches etc being concealed with the glare. I was AU/MS and I leaned it to MS62 but I think the coin is AU58. this one is going to be interesting to see the in-hand photos as to whether she grades straight or not. as Zurie said, cant go wrong at that price.

Signs of slight wear. AU-58 straight grade.
